Man killed in Monday afternoon shooting in West Philly

A man died Monday afternoon after being shot twice in West Philadelphia, police said.

Officers rushed the victim, described as in his 30s or 40s, to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center after he was shot in the neck and shoulder just before 2 p.m. on the 100 block of S. 45th Street, authorities said.

Earlier in the day, at around 12:45 p.m., a 42-year-old man was shot in the back of the leg on the 800 block of E. Ontario Street in Kensington.

He was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was in stable condition, according to police.

Five people were wounded in separate shootings Sunday night.

Authorities said a 17-year-old girl was shot in the left eye at around 11:15 p.m. outside on the 300 block of N. 62nd Street in the Haddington section of West Philadelphia.

She was rushed to Lankenau Medical Center and is expected to physically recover.

Three people were hospitalized after gunfire erupted at a get-together in the parking lot of a strip mall in North Philadelphia, authorities said.

Officers who arrived at the scene just after 11 p.m. Sunday saw people riding ATVs and driving out of Hunting Park Plaza, at G Street and Hunting Park Avenue.

Police found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his face. He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he is expected to survive.

A 31-year-old man who was struck in the hand told investigators he was talking to his girlfriend when he heard about a dozen shots and hid behind a car. He was listed in stable condition, authorities said.

The third victim, a 27-year-old woman, said to police that she saw two men exchange gunfire before being shot in the leg. An ATV rider took her to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Hunting Park Plaza is a known hangout for riders of dirt bikes and ATVs, as well as other vehicles, to the point where neighbors and businesses have attempted to take action, according to a June CBS3 report.

A 24-year-old man was shot during a robbery that occurred just before 9 p.m. Sunday on the 3200 block of Jasper Street in Kensington, authorities said.

The man told detectives he tried to slap the robber’s hand after he pulled out a small handgun. A shot was fired, striking the victim in the left hand. The gunman allegedly took $80.

Police said a passing driver took the man to Jefferson Frankford Hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier in the day, just before 3 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, shoulder and hip not far away on the 3600 block of Jasper Street in Harrowgate.

He was in critical condition at Temple University Hospital following the shooting but is expected to survive.

Police reported no arrests in the immediate aftermath of any of the incidents.
