Man tries to rob cabbie with cop right behind him: Video


A cabbiewho was held up at gunpoint in his own car was saved when a police officer one car behind casually walked up and arrested the crook.

Ralph Valletta picked up the thief, identified asVictor Martinez-Herrer, around 4:30 p.m. on March 7 near North 10th and Buttonwood streets in Reading, Pennsylvania,WFMZ reported.

A few moments later, as caught by surveillance cameras,Martinez-Herrerdrew an apparent handgun and held it to Valletta’s face while demanding cash — unaware that aBerksCounty sheriff’scar was right behind the cab.

Valletta gave the man $11 and can be heard on video saying he doesn’t have any more because his shift just started. He then began digging in his pockets for his wallet as a police officer walks up to find the commotion in the vehicle.

The officer quickly arrestedMartinez-Herrer, who was reportedly only armed with a fake gun.

“Oh my god! I can’t believe it!” Valletta can be heard saying in the video as he sees the sheriff’s deputy walk up and arrest the thief.

Martinez-Herrer, 18, who lives a block away from the intersection where he was picked up, has been charged with assault and terroristic threats, according to WFMZ.

Valletta reportedly went back to work after being rescued by the sheriff’s deputy.
