NFL draft in Philly: Where to park for free, how to get to draft site

With the NFL draft just three weeks away, it’s time to start making plans to be among the tens of thousands expected to ascend to the Ben Franklin Parkway on April 27.

In addition to the actual draft festivities in a makeshift theater at the landing of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the NFL experience will expand all across Eakins Oval and promises to be quite the draw for football fanatics from across the country.

So where the heck can you park for this event?

If searching long and hard for street parking doesn’t appeal to you, the city of Philadelphia announced that fans can park their cars for free at the Wells Fargo Center and Citizens Bank Park in South Philly. SEPTA will then carry fans down the Broad Street Line where they can either hop off at City Hall or Spring Garden Street and walk to the parkway, or they can switch to a trolley at City Hall and get off at 22nd and Market streets, then walk north. Subway-to-bus options include taking the 43 bus from Spring Garden Street off the Broad Street Line, or taking buses 32 or 38 from City Hall. Fans parking in South Philly may also take the 7 bus from Oregon Avenue and 10th Street all the way to Fairmount Avenue.

Street closures are expected to start soon in the Fairmout neighborhood of Philadelphia.
