Dozens of volunteers will this Saturday take to Front Street to clean up the neighborhood where Amber Long was robbed and gunned down on Jan. 19. They will be participating in the city’s annual spring cleanup day but this year, it’s in Long’s honor.

“I was just very affected by it and very upset,” said Jackie Newall, of the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association, who lives about a block away from where Long was killed. “When I started learning more about who she was, she just seems like an amazing person with so much to give and who has contributed so much to the city.”

Newall and the group will clean the site and also, create a mural to brighten up the spot where Long was found. “We wanted to do something to honor her.”

When other groups found out the neighborhood cleanup there was doing it in Long’s memory, many more signed up.

“We want to make that part of the city vibrant and bright,” Newall said. “And continue that spirit that she started to develop there.”

They are also bringing awarenss to the fact that Long’s killer is still out there. Anyone with information on Long’s killer is asked to call 215-686-TIPS.
