One sheriff accidentally shoots another sheriff inside Pa. courthouse

Police in reading are investigating an incident in which one deputy sheriff accidentally shot another deputy sheriff inside a Berks County Courthouse office, according to a report from The Reading Eagle.

Two deputies were in the sheriff’s warrants division office on the 17th floor of the courthouse in Reading when, at about 9:45 a.m., one of the deputy’s holstered service pistols discharged, wounding the other deputy in the leg. He was rushed to Reading Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery, but his injury is reportedly not life-threatening.

A sheriff told The Eagle that investigators currently believe the deputy’s weapon or holster malfunctioned, but that city police will be handling further investigation of the incident to avoid a possible conflict of interest.
