Pa. woman, 72, is robbed while driving to the police station to report a robbery

An elderly Allegheny County woman was robbed twice in the same day – the first time at a grocery store and the second as she was traveling to the police station to report the initial crime, according to a report from WPXI-TV.

Harriet Sweger, 72, of McKees Rocks, told police that a woman bumped into her at a supermarket, stole her checkbook from her purse and ran out the door.

She said that as she was driving to the police station to report that theft, she stopped to ask for directions. It was then that a man reached into her car, snatched her purse and fled.

Though Sweger told the station that she canceled her debit card and closed her bank account, she says she has been left temporarily unable to pay for any purchases. Police reportedly have a suspect in the theft of Sweger’s purse, but have not yet released that man’s identity.
