John Perzel was first elected state representative from Northeast Philadelphia in 1978. His opponent yesterday, Kevin Boyle, was born two years later. And yesterday, voters in the 172nd District voters abided by the “throw-em-all-out” mood of the year.
The former House speaker and majority leader lost, likely in part because of 82 counts of Bonusgate-related corruption counts he was charged with earlier this year.
“We won!” said Boyle, despite not yet receiving a concession call but leading 54-46 percent at 9:45 p.m. “This is a vindication. I’m looking forward to being part of a new generation of Philadelphia leadership.”
