The Philadelphia Flyers have sacked coach Peter Laviolette and promoted assistant Craig Berube in his place after an 0-3 start to the season, the team announced today.

Berube becomes the 18th full-time head coach in the history of the franchise.

The Flyers also fired assistant coach Kevin McCarthy but Joe Mullen and Jeff Reese keep their jobs.

Philadelphia was beaten 2-1 by Carolina on Sunday.
