Phillies finally trade for a bat

The Philllies, desperate for offense, finally pulled the trigger to add a bat.

On Wednesday the team announced they had traded for JimmyParedes, a well-traveled but adequate infielder and outfielder.

This continues the recent trend that has seen Philly try and connect on low-risk, high-reward moves (like gambling in the Rule 5 draft).

Paredes, 27-years-old, isbatting .267 (4-15) with a double, home run and two RBI in just seven games this season with the Blue Jays.

He has had a rather tumultuouscampaign, after being picked up off waivers and then designated for assignment. The Phillies have had a tumultuous stretch of late themselves, dropping nine of their last 11 after a 24-17 start.

Last year, Paredes set career highs in games (104), hits (100), doubles (17), home runs (10), RBI (42), runs (46) and walks (19) with Baltimore. He also posted a 20-game on-base streak and a 12-game hitting streak in 2015.

The well-traveled utility man has decent career numbers considering his stature in the league. He has a.257 batting average with 35 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs, 83 RBI, 19 stolen bases and 91 runs in 256 games between the Astros,Royals, Oriolesand Blue Jays (2016).

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Phillies moved Charlie Morton to the 60-day disabled list. It is unknown whether he will be in Philly to play tonight. The compensation sent to the Jays is to be determined and will be cash considerations, Phillies General Manager Matt Klentak said.
