Phillies Notebook: Chase Utley update, plus fun with Twitter

Chase Utley is making progress.

The Phillies are sending their injured All-Star to Clearwater, Fla. for some extended spring training. Utley sprung the news Sunday night in front of his locker. However, he wouldn’t offer any kind of timetable for a return to the Phillies’ lineup.

“I don’t have a timeframe,” Utley said. “I’m feeling better and I have an opportunity to go down and keep working, and kind of advance how things are going here.”

Extended spring training games don’t count as an official rehab assignment. Utley can pick and choose when he wants to play. However, once he does start playing in rehab games, he’ll have 20 days to re-join the Phillies.

Utley confirmed that he feels good swinging the bat, but taking ground balls has been a chore at times.

“My whole goal is to feel comfortable not only in the batter’s box but on the field, as well,” Utley said.

Victorino teaches Charlie about Twitter

Shane Victorino stopped by the MLB Fan Cave in New York City to teach his skipper a lesson on social media. Charlie Manuel had no clue what Twitter was or how to use it.
