Phillies trade deadline: Meet the new kids

Josh Lindblom

Scouting report: The 25-year-old, right-handed reliever can provide immediate help in a dismal bullpen. Lindblom went 2-2 with 43 strikeouts (3.02 ERA) for the Dodgers. Relies on fastball, which can hit 95 mph.

Ethan Martin

Scouting report: Tons of upside. Right-hander was 15th overall pick in 2009 draft. The 23-year starter features fastball and a devastating curve that is ranked as best in Dodgers farm system, per Baseball America.

Seth Rosin

Scouting report: Rosin seems to be the throw-in player. The right-handed reliever/starter went 2-1 with a 4.31 ERA for the Giants’ Class-A affiliate. However, the 23-year-old did average more than a strikeout per inning.

Nate Schierholtz

Scouting report: The 28-year-old has struggled with maturity at times — did or didn’t he request a trade? — but has shown flashes of greatness. Hit .278 with nine homers and 41 RBIs in 2011, his best season.

Tommy Joseph

Scouting report: Depending on how fast he develops, young catcher (21) could be groomed to replace Carlos Ruiz, who is a free agent after 2013. Joseph needs to work on his defense, but has plenty of pop, with 46 homers in 324 minor-league games.
