Philly cop suspended again for alleged assault

A Philadelphia police officer was suspended after being charged with assault in Upper Darby for an off-duty incident, the police department announced Tuesday.

Deric Lewis, 35, a nine-year veteran of the force, was suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss on Monday by outgoing commissioner Charles Ramsey.

It was the second time Ramsey suspended Lewis.

In November 2010, when Lewis was with the 22nd District, he was suspended after he was arrested on charges of assault for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, 6ABC reported.

This time, Lewis was assigned to the 19th district when he was caught in a “domestic altercation” with a woman in Upper Darby on Dec. 28.

According to the police report, “When responding officers arrived on scene, Mr. Lewis did not comply with their requests to obtain his identification and continued in a disorderly manner.”

Lewis is charged with simple assault and harassment.

“The people that know me and what situation I’m going thru right now I would like to say thank you so much for all the love and support,” Lewis wrote on his Facebook page onDec. 31.
