Philly institutions celebrate the Flower Show with food, drinks and more

The annual Philadelphia Flower Show will once again bloom in the City of Brotherly Love, but this year the event has a later start date and moved its floral offerings outdoors.

The local show has gained recognition around the country and the world in years past and is now officially known as the nation’s largest and the world’s longest-running horticultural event, and 2021 will be historic in terms of venue as well. In response to the ongoing pandemic, the move outdoors will allow Philadelphia Horticultural Society to present the show safely. Philadelphians who purchase tickets for their preferred date between June 5 to 13 will be able to check out the showcase at the historic Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park (FDR Park) in South Philadelphia.

To celebrate, some Philly institutions have decided to spring up with their own creative ideas based around the floral-filled event, and Metro has the scoop on where to go to indulge.

Revivalist Spirits and Four Humours Distilling

For the Philadelphia Flower Show, two local distilleries are showcasing their own take on a floral treat. Four Humours Distilling & Rickhouse in Fishtown is introducing a new craft cocktail to be sold during the duration of the Flower Show which runs from June 5 to 13. The cocktail is a “Clover Club,” and it includes Revivalist’s Summertide Gin, fresh muddled raspberries, simple syrup, egg white, and is garnished with apple blossoms. The cocktail costs $16, and $2 from every purchase ($1 from each Four Humours and Revivalist Spirits) will go to PHS during the week of the show. Philadelphians can snag the cocktail now at Four Humors Distilling in Fishtown.

The Barnes Museum and Constellation Culinary Group

One cultural institution is celebrating the Flower Show with food, drink and specialty tours. Barnes in Bloom at The Barnes Museum kicks off June 8 and 9 and will feature special ticketed events including a luncheon, cocktail reception, self-guided tours and more. The luncheon will take place on Tuesday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets include a buffet lunch, a self-guided tour of the collection with themed pop-up talks, and access to the Soutine / de Kooning exhibit. On the menu—which was curated by the Constellation Culinary Group—visitors can expect French onion tartlets, chicken paillard, roast salon filet, pasta shells and more.

Lastly the cocktail reception (curated of course by Constellation) takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. and features two drinks and light refreshments and the self-guided tour, which comes with all tickets. Philadelphians can munch and sip on cheeses from around the world, lamb burger sliders, French frose, wines by the glass, soft drinks and more.

Email [email protected]  or call 215-278-7220 to purchase tickets, book a virtual tour, or reserve a table. Access to special exhibit “Soutine / de Kooning: Conversations in Paint” is included in the ticket price.
