A man allegedly stole an ambulance from outside a local hospital Tuesday night, and Philly police are investigating.

The incident took place at 9:20 p.m. at Methodist Hospital, which is located in the 2300 block of South Broad Street. The paramedics were inside the hospital when this occurred.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told ABC that a man exiting the hospital jumped into the unattended vehicle and just took off.

The ambulance was tracked to the 1300 block of Christian Street, which is about a ten-minute drive from the hospital.

The ambulance abductor was taken into custody.

Philly police reported that the suspect had an issue with his mental health.

Small told ABC that, “He actually believed he was a fire department employee driving this medic unit, and he was talking about going on some runs.”

It was reported that suspect will have a mental evaluation, and may not be charged.

As a result of ambulance abductor, there were no injuries reported and the suspect did not steal from the unit.
