Phils looking to land free agent B.J. Upton in center

The Phillies are reportedly one of the finalists to land free agent B.J. Upton.

The center fielder visited Citizens Bank Park last week and the Phils hope to make a move before Christmas. The Atlanta Braves are also vying for Upton’s services.

“I think that once Thanksgiving passes, as we get closer to Christmas, organizations want to put their teams on the field for their fans,” Amaro told CSNPhilly.com. “Fans want to know who they’re going to be cheering for and get excited about their clubs. We’re no exception.”

Amaro also listed Angel Pagan, Michael Bourn and Shane Victorino as other potential targets to fill the outfield void. Upton batted .246 with 28 home runs and 78 RBIs last season. It would likely take a five-year deal to get the 28-year-old Upton.
