More than a dozen people have been arrested following a series of dog fighting raids, the largest in Philadelphia history.

Police and the Pennsylvania SPCA raided four homes, including one on the 2600 block of Gerritt Street in Gray’s Ferry early this morning. Dogs were reportedly fighting in a front room of the residence when authorities arrived. Seven battered dogs were seized from the property.

Humane Law Enforcement Officers and the SPCA also raided a home on the 2800 block of Boudinot Street in Kensington and are moving onto locations on East Clearfield Street and the 3000 block of Potter Street, according to an SPCA spokeswoman Wendy Marano. The raids are ongoing.

26 animals have been seized so far and between 15 and 20 people have reportedly been arrested.
