We’ve never quite understood why ESPN broadcasts the Scripps National Spelling Bee. It’s not because we don’t appreciate, respect or enjoy the event — actually, we made it to regional finals as a bright-eyed pre-teen — no, it’s because it’s simply not a sport. (And quick note to the Worldwide Leader: neither is poker).

That’s not to say the Bee shouldn’t be televised. It should. We recommend Game Show Network, maybe throw some cash at Steve Harvey to host or, better yet, Kevin Hart. At least if he mixed up his Indian-American girls, he’d have something funny to riff about.

Which brings us to ESPN’s Samantha Steele. The blonde (bombshell?) mistakenly looked at the wrong Indian girl as she announced the winner. Steele immediately apologized on Twitter, but the damage was done. Good thing there weren’t two Mr. Mets on the stage because those things are impossible to tell apart.

Penguins fan reaches text limit

Remember that girl you met at the bar when you were drunk … the one you proceeded to text on quick-fire in the coming days (hours?). The one that was really into you when J. Cole was blasting, but then went softly into the quiet night, never to be heard from again.

If that’s you, then you have a lot in common with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the jilted lovers of professional sports. You see, a Penguins fan is suing the team for sending him too many text messages. The Penguins reportedly sent this Yinzer two extra text alerts in March. In a two-week span, he received a whopping three extra texts. Apparently, he was promised that he wouldn’t receive more than three per week when he initially signed up.

Now, he’s taking them to court. Yes, this is really happening. Only in Pittsburgh.

Batman did what?

We’re going to keep this last one short and sweet — and take a break from the wonderful world of sports.
