Polanco latest Phil to go down

The Phillies beat the Blue Jays, 13-7, yesterday in Grapefruit League action. They also lost Placido Polanco in the process.

The team’s starting third baseman left the game in the first inning after hyperextending his left elbow. It is the same elbow that he had surgically-repaired in the offseason.

“It’s nothing bad. I’ve had it before,” Polanco told reporters. “I’ve had it a million times. But the fact that I had surgery in that elbow, we’re being very safe.”

Polanco called it a “day-to-day thing,” but he fully expects to be ready for Opening Day.

“When I’ve had it before, I never stopped playing from it,” Polanco said.

Polanco is the latest Phillie to go down with an injury, joining second baseman Chase Utley and closer Brad Lidge. The Phillies open the 2011 season against the Astros on April 1 at Citizens Bank Park.
