Police Commissioner: Star of viral ‘parade punch’ video, Lt. Josey, will be fired

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey has decided to take “Commissioner’s Direct Action” against Lt. Jonathan Josey, a Highway Patrol supervisor caught on camera appearing to punch a woman in the face during Sunday’s Puerto Rican Day Parade celebration in a video that quickly went viral.

Effective Thursday, Josey will be suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, Ramsey said this evening.

Ramsey’s announcement comes the same day that the District Attorney’s Office dropped charges against Chester woman Aida Guzman, 39, whose arrest for alleged disorderly conduct on Sunday sparked outrage due to the video uploaded to YouTube in which she can be seen bleeding from the mouth as she is led away in handcuffs. Internal Affairs announced earlier this week that it would be launching a probe into Josey’s conduct.

More footage also came to light today showing Josey’s amateur acting career. The 19-year force veteran further nominated himself as a Daily News Sexy Single in 2006 – and won.
