Police are seeking the man who shot a 12-year-old boy early Sunday morning.

The suspect, Jamille Carter, 23, was wanted on charges of aggravated assault as of press-time for shooting the boy around 2 a.m. Sunday. Police identified the victim as Carter’s girlfriend’s son.

Carter entered his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend’s home at Janney and Tioga streets in Port Richmond and, when she told him to leave, “grabbed her by the shirt and began smacking her in the face,” according to the police report.

While the two were fighting, a gun fired and hit the woman’s 12-year-old son, who had come down the stairs and witnessed the altercation. He was wounded in the upper left leg, according to police.

Carter fled the house on foot. The boy was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children where he was listed in stable condition.

Carter, of the 1200 block of N. 28th Street, is described as being about 5’10” and weighing 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing all black clothes, and is known to frequent West Philly.
