Police ID suspect in neighborhood handyman’s murder

Police said Monday they were seeking a teenager in the murder of a 78-year-old handyman found dead in his Southwest Philly home.

Joseph Daly, 78, was found dead on May 31 just after 1:30 p.m. at his home on the 6300 block of Theodore Street.

Police said they found Daly “on the living room floor with a pool of blood next to the right side of his head.”

Daly’s 2003 Ford E150 van was missing, but it was recovered unoccupied on June 2 at Griscom Street and Oxford Avenue.

Detectives now have a warrant for the arrest of suspect Quintis Clark, 18, based on “further investigation” and “additional information,” a police report said. The specifics of the investigation were not immediately available.

Daly, who was last seen on the evening of May 29, three days before his murder, when a group of juveniles robbed him outside home, was known as a neighborhood handyman, the Philly Voice reported.

Tipsters are being asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334/35. A $20,000 reward is offered for information leading to Clark’s arrest and conviction.
