West Chester University psychology major Ali Fausnaught, 19, died Wednesday evening after falling off a roof during a Spring Fling party near Temple University, where her boyfriend is a student.
Police on Thursday said Fausnaught was leaning back so her boyfriend could snap her photo when she unwittingly plunged nearly 40 feet onto the concrete below.
“I believer her boyfriend was taking a picture of her,” a Philadelphia police spokeswoman said.
“She kept stepping back to get a better picture and she stepped right off the back of the roof.”
The medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine whether alcohol played a role in the death.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the entire Fausnaught family, and all of Ali’s friends and classmates during this very difficult time,” Matthew Bricketto of West Chester University said in a statement.
He said counseling services will be available for students affected by the loss.
