Polly back, but Rollins ‘gone till September’

Jimmy Rollins is faster than the Phillies’ medical staff.

The Phillies shortstop tweeted yesterday that he was headed to the 15-day disabled list due to a right groin injury.

“Soooooo this is what we got…mild grade 2 strain. DL,” Rollins tweeted, before adding, “Gone till September………”

Soon after, the Phillies sent out a press release confirming the news. The move marks Rollins’ fourth stint on the DL in four years. Rollins is hitting .268 with 14 homers and 58 RBIs this season.

To fill his spot on the roster, the team activated Placido Polanco. The All-Star third baseman has been dealing with a sports hernia since early August.

Shane Victorino replaced Rollins in the lead-off spot, while Wilson Valdez manned shortstop. Polanco returned to third base and batted second.

Remember, Rollins is a free agent after this season, and the Phils have yet to extend his deal.
