PPD Hosts Nationwide Conference to Discuss Social Media in Policework

Police officials from across the country will meet at Philadelphia’s Loews Hotel tomorrow for a one-day conference discussing the implications of social media in police work.

The issue was brought to the forefront of discussion in the city over the summer, as a handful of “flash mobs,” mostly facilitated through social media, caused property damage and injuries during several incidents in Center City.

The Washington, D.C.-based Police Executive Research Forum, led by its president, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, will brief about 50 police executives and other officials from cities including
Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City with support from
the Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
