Pregnant Amish woman killed by lightning in Somerset County

A nine-months pregnant Amish woman and her unborn child were killed by a lightning strike this afternoon, according to a report from The Daily American.

Mary Yoder, 36, of Summit Township, was picking blackberries with her husband and their two children in the woods near their home when a storm hit.

She reportedly sought refuge under a pine tree, where she was struck around 11 a.m. She died on the scene.

Yoder’s husband and children waited under a different tree and were not injured. The death comes about two weeks after a New York woman was struck and killed by lightning at the Jersey Shore.
