An Arkansas couple has been sentenced to prison for their role in a scam involving toner cartridges for printers and copiers that cost the city $1.3 million.

Danita Willis, 35, will serve 12 months in prison. Her husband, Derek Willis, 49, will serve 36 months in prison after her release. Together, the pair owned Laser Cartridge Plus of Russellville, Arkansas. They pleaded guilty last year

According to court documents, city mailroom employee Calvin Duncan ordered the cartridges city vendors and intercepted them as they were delivered. He then sold them to Laser Cartridge Plus.

Duncan pleaded guilty in 2013, about a year after investigators uncovered the scam. His sentencing date is scheduled for May.
