Pronger closes door on ‘year from hell’

The Flyers waited two days to return to the practice rink and clean out their lockers. Many players were there to talk about what went wrong this season and how to fix it. Many not named Chris Pronger.

The ailing defenseman is still awaiting test results from doctors to see if he has a herniated disk in his back. Pronger called the 2010-11 campaign “the year from hell.” While surgery is far from a foregone conclusion, it is a distinct possibility.

“I started the season with a surgery and I’m going to end it probably, who knows, whether I get another one or not,” Pronger said via conference call. “I’m still trying to figure it out.”

Pronger, who underwent three surgeries in nine months, missed all of training camp and preseason while recovering from knee surgery. He then missed 32 games in the regular season — eight in the postseason — as he dealt with foot, hand and back injuries.

“Hopefully, I can come into camp next year in a lot better shape, a lot healthier, and able to hopefully play 82 games,” Pronger said.
