Red-light fines going where?

Fines collected from red-light enforcement camera tickets will be used to fund $8.4 million in grants for transportation projects across Pennsylvania, Gov. Tom Corbett announced this week.

The 106 projects listed on a press release from Harrisburg include upgraded traffic lights and “other basic systems. These improvements have the potential to make a big difference in traffic flow and mean better mobility for people across the state.”

The state law establishing the cameras mandates that fines for infractions at 19 intersections in Philadelphia will be evenly divided between the city and the rest of the state. Selected municipalities in Bucks County will receive about $297,000 with $878,000 going to Chester County, $487,000 to Delaware County and $1.76 million to Montgomery County.
