Report: Flyers to use buyout on Briere

Buffalo Sabres v Philadelphia Flyers The Flyers will use the compliance buyout on Danny Briere two days after the Stanley Cup Final ends.

Danny Briere is getting his walking papers.

The Flyers will use their compliance buyout on the 35-year-old center, according to multiple reports. ESPN first reported the news citing sources that said Briere was told of his fate last week in a meeting with GM Paul Holmgren.

The team isn’t commenting on the situation and the Flyers can’t make the move official until two days after the Stanley Cup Final ends.

By buying out Briere, the Flyers will cut $6.5 million off the salary cap. The team still owes Briere $5 million on the eight-year, $52 million deal he inked in 2007. He has two years remaining on his contract.
