It’s not official — far from it.
However, college football took a giant leap Wednesday toward establishing a legitimate playoff system. The BCS commissioners and Notre Dame’s athletic director endorsed a four-team postseason model, according to ESPN. It still must be approved by the BCS presidential oversight committee, which is scheduled to convene June 26 in Washington, D.C.
“We’re very unified,” Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany told ESPN. “There are issues that have yet to be finalized. There’s always devil in the detail, from the model to the selection process, but clearly we’ve made a lot of progress.”
Under the proposed system, there would be two national semifinals games and a national championship game. The four teams would be hand-picked by a special committee.
