Retired Norristown police sergeant busted for selling crystal meth

A retired Norristown police sergeant is behind bars in Montgomery County on charges that he was dealing crystal methamphetamine.

Jack Pennington, 66, of Upper Merion, was arrested Tuesday by Montgomery County authorities following a three-month investigation. The arrest took place following an alleged purchase between Pennington and his supplier in the parking lot of the Plymouth Meeting Mall. Police recovered crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $17,000 and more than $16,000 in cash.

A search of Pennington’s car revealed a loaded handgun, another $1,500 in cash, three cell phones, scales and other drug paraphernalia, prosecutors said. Authorities also executed a search warrant at Pennington’s home on the 300 block of Ross Road and recovered four handguns, ammunition, and more drug paraphernalia. Police also said they recovered evidence of illegal bookmaking and $1,500 in cash.

Authorities began the investigation in March after receiving an anonymous tip that Pennington was involved in illegal bookmaking and drug trafficking.

Pennington is jailed on $2 million bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 29. The investigation is ongoing.
