Robbery suspects still on loose after shooting good Samaritan in Rittenhouse Square

A man was shot last night in Rittenhouse Square while attempting to break up a stick-up, police said.

Two gunmen shot the 39-year-old victim, who was riding his bike through the park and happened on a robbery in progress, carried out by the suspects, Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10.

The victim is in critical condition with four or five bullet wounds to his chest, torso and shoulder, Small said, but he’s expected to live, Philly.com reported.

Police responded to multiple calls in the Center City park just after 9:30 p.m., where they found the victim laying on a walkway. According to police, one of the suspects fired a revolver at the victim several times before they both ran off.

The group of people who were originally being robbed also ran off, police said.

Police are reviewing cameras in the park, but as of Wednesday, neither suspect has been captured. One is described as 5-foot-11, wearing a gray shirt with the words “Nike.” The other was described as 5-foot-8 man with a pudgy build, wearing dark clothing.
