SEPTA employee critically wounded in SW Phila. shooting

A 52-year-old SEPTA employee was shot and critically wounded on his way to work this morning in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.

The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. on the 7100 block of Elmood Avenue. Police said the man was shot in the head and body. A preliminary investigation indicates the gunman may have stood over the victim and fired shots.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was listed in critical condition.

Witnesses described the suspect as a light-skinned male with Caucasian features. He allegedly fled in a gray or white vehicle driven by a white female.

SEPTA said the victim worked in the Elmwood district and was a 27-year employee.
