Shooter suspected of killing 6 believed to be cornered in his home

The military veteran who police say killed six family members in a shooting spree near Philadelphia Monday may be dead, according to a police officer at the scene, who asked not to be named.

Bradley William Stone, 35, may be inside his Pennburg, Pa., home, the source told Metro.

SWAT teams surrounded the home and demolished the garage behind the house. Lights on the street have been extinguished as night falls, and neighbors ordered to remain indoors.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said the victims were all members of Stone’s family, and say the shootings may have been tied to a custody battle. One other member of Stone’s family was also critically wounded with a gunshot to the head.

Stone is believed to have killed the six people at three different locations all within a mile of each other.

Nicole Miller, reportedly Stone’s ex-wife, was killed around 4 a.m. in her apartment on the 150 block of Main Street in the Harleysville section of Lower Salford Township. She was shot in front of her two children ages 8 and 5, police said. The children were later found unharmed at a neighbor’s home.

Stone also shot and killed his ex-wife’s 75-year-old grandmother, Patricia Hill, in her Lansdale home. Another body was also found at this location.

In Souderton, at a home on the 100 block of Penn Avenue owned by Miller’s sister, police found two bodies and a teenaged male with a gunshot to the head. The teen was medivaced out and is allegedly in critical condition at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Police and a SWAT team are staked out at Stone’s home at Main and W. 4th Streets in Pennsburg, about 20 miles outside Philadelphia. The timeline:

• Around 4 a.m. police found Nicole Miller shot to death in her Lower Salford Township apartment.
• Around 4:30 a.m. police found two more bodies at Patricia Hill’s home in Lansdale.
• Around 11 a.m., after police found two more bodies at the Souderton home, police fired a diversionary device into the home and entered. They found two more dead bodies and the teenaged male.
• Around noon schools in the Souderton School District were temporarily on lockdown. Homes were temporarily evacuated.
• Around 1 p.m. police descended upon a home in Pennsburg. Police ripped down a garage door and fired gas canisters inside. Police attempted to contact Stone, who they believe is inside, via a microphone to no avail.
• Around 1:30 p.m. gas canisters were fired into the first floor.
• The Upper Perkiomen Valley School District in Pennsburg was also placed on lockdown and started releasing students around 3:45 p.m
