Art in the Age

If your dad loves some good booze, there really is no better local spot to check out than the city’s own unique bar supply shop and tasting room, Art in the Age. The Old City hotspot will be launching their Tamworth Garden V.S.O.P. Apple Brandy this Friday, June 19, just in time for Father’s Day. The libation blend is said to be “an experiment in purity and terroir” and has a taste that is truly unique which comes from the way it was distilled. According to the release, this $85 bottle begins with heirloom Cortland apples grown in Concord, New Hampshire, at the Carter Hill Apple Orchard—one of the oldest active orchards in the United States—then is double distilled in a traditional alembic still in the style of French Calvados, which then ensures that the barrels are packed with the New Hampshire apple flavor. The resulting spirit is then barreled in new oak at no more than 125 proof, before aging for at least four years in a bonded barrelhouse.

Art in the Age is also offering their limited-edition beaver castoreum whiskey from Hendrick’s Gin, the Eau De Musc (“Water of Musk”) for $65 a bottle as well. The 88-proof straight bourbon whiskey is infused with the oil found in the beaver castor sacs below the tail to give it its distinct taste. Both options can be found at Art in the Age’s store in Old City or online through their website.
