Hope you’re hungry Philly because we all deserve a cookie.

Next week marks one very sweet and special occasion, but Philadelphians and beyond will have the chance to celebrate well before the fact— and it’s all thanks to one very recognizable and iconic Philly brand.

According to a release, Wednesday, Aug. 4 is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day and The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company will be marking its favorite food holiday with two weeks of free cookies, discounts, donations, and more.

“Philly is known for Famous 4th’s, and this year we are officially adding August 4th as another Famous Philadelphia holiday,” said Tina Phillips, co-owner of The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company. “There’s no better way to mark our favorite day of the year than by celebrating the customers who have helped make our chocolate chip cookies an iconic Philadelphia flavor. No matter where you are, we are making it easier and more affordable to stack up our premium chocolate chip cookies while giving back to a charity that is so close to our hearts.”

At the Cookie Company, you can bet they know what they’re talking about too. The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company was founded in 1978 with one goal: serving delicious, fresh-baked cookies made only with the finest ingredients. As the official description for the business reads, using the same recipe for their award-winning cookies for more than 40 years, owners Brian and Tina Phillips have grown the original bakery concept – born in South Philadelphia and raised in the Reading Terminal Market – into an e-commerce and wholesale distributor of the most delicious cookies money can buy. Today, Famous cookies can be found throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey and shipped anywhere in the United States.

It’s become so popular that people can even buy the balls of dough, chocolate and sugar through the popular delivery service GoPuff already baked or ready to pop in the oven (Metro can’t condone the eating of raw cookie dough, however, we also wouldn’t judge if you did.)

For this special holiday that seems like it was made for The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company, customers in the Greater Philadelphia region can enjoy $1 chocolate chip cookies on that date at all of the brand’s locations including Reading Terminal Market, Ridge Ave Bakery, King Of Prussia Mall and the Wildwood Boardwalk. That will ring true for delivery through (exclusively) GoPuff as well.

On top of all the deals, The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company will donate 100% of retail $1 chocolate chip cookie sales on Aug. 4 to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philadelphia Region (RMHC). So you can eat those treats guilt-free for a good cause.

The release also states that as an added bonus to Reading Terminal Market customers, on Aug. 4, The Famous 4th Street Cookie Co. will make one customer “Famous,” awarding them with a free cookie every single day for one full year. One customer will be selected every hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., totaling 6 “Famous” winners.

Now, that’s something to be famous for.

In preparation for the big day, on Tuesday, Aug. 3, the company will be donating more than 1,500 fresh-baked cookies to those in need of an extra smile. Owners Tina and Brian Phillips will deliver trays of cookies to the RMHC locations in West and North Philadelphia, as well as the Broad Street Ministries food bank distribution sites in Center City, South Philadelphia, and Kensington. Last year during the 2020 National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day celebration, The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company raised $5,000 in donations for RMHC which all went to fund the care and support of families of seriously ill children.

However, those who are checking out the specials online can start even earlier. From July 26 to Aug. 6, The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company will offer a free box of six colossal chocolate chip cookies with every online purchase of $25 or more through their website.
