Stacey Smalls, charged with murdering twins, is denied bail

The Tacony woman accused of murdering her twin babies last week is being held without bail.

Stacey Newkirk-Smalls, 41, was arraigned over the weekend after being released from the hospital. She is charged with murdering her one-year-old twins and the attempted murder of her four-year-old daughter. She is also being charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person.

Ronald Smalls came home last Thursday and discovered his wife, Stacey Smalls, who had tried to slit her wrists. Their twins, Adam and Eve Smalls, were pronounced dead at the scene and their four-year-old daughter had been given some kind of narcotic. Police still have not released a motive in the killings, but sources have said Smalls and her husband were having marital problems and the murders were an attempt to get back at him.

Smalls’ first court date is scheduled for June 13 for a preliminary hearing.
