If common sense trumped playoff baseball, Crissy Wontrova would have been asleep somewhere after finishing a 12-hour shift yesterday morning at Hahnemann University Hospital. But this is October, or as Wontrova called it, “Doctober.”
“I’m on like four hours of sleep to get here,” she said, standing outside Citizens Bank Park with her co-worker and partner in crime, Ronni Delany. The two Delaware County women have gone to spring training, regular season and playoff games together for the last three years.
“While she was working, I was getting the stuff together,” said Delany, sporting a Phillies jersey, blue Phillies pajamas and Phillies earrings.
The playoffs also haven’t gotten old to Harrisburg native Mike Christine, who drove three hours from Leesburg, Va., to watch Roy Halladay’s postseason debut with a friend from Philadelphia.
“He should be just as good as [Cliff] Lee was last year. I mean, I hated to see Lee go, but it worked out getting [Roy] Oswalt,” Christine said. Halladay outdid the shutout Lee threw in the Phils’ postseason opener last year, treating fans to only the second no-hitter in postseason history.
