Sunday OUT! draws thousands to NoLibs

Coming out to the region’s largest annual LGBT street festival, Sunday OUT!, keeps getting easier, according to organizers yesterday at the weeklong Equality Forum’s conclusion, where as many as twice as many people gathered compared to last year.

For the second year, the event that attracted about 10,000 people last year was held at the Piazza at Schmidts in Northern Liberties after years in Center City. Equality Forum officials said between 15,000 and 20,000 showed up.

The festival featured over 150 vendors and community groups, as well as musical entertainment ranging from pop act Kat DeLuna to scantily-clad male go-go dancers. The festival is the party culminating more than 25 events and forums on the lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual community.

“Philadelphia is the birthplace of the nation, but also organized LGBT civil rights movements,” said Lazin. “And the Piazza is one of the most extraordinary urban sites in the country.”
