Nick Foles is always Nick Foles. Just ask rookie wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who had 37 yards on two receptions during his NFL debut Sunday.
“Nick is consistent, he doesn’t change,” Matthews said. “He’s the same guy every day, same guy in the first quarter, same in the fourth and the same guy Monday as he is Sunday. That’s where we get our confidence from, having a leader who is so consistent.”
Though his demeanor and intensity may have remained constant during the Eagles comeback 34-17 win Sunday, his performance on the field certainly did not.
In the first half, he collected 139 passing yards with 12-for-24 accuracy, while losing two fumbles and tossing an interception. All of 2013 saw Foles turn the ball over only four times total.
But then in the second, Foles was his old self again, collecting 183 yards, two touchdowns and his fifth career 300-yard game (322 yards total).
The team’s 34 points tie for the third-highest second half total in Eagles history, and their offense impressivley scored on four of six second-half posessions.
“When you’re tested like that it’s all about trust,” Eagles linebacker Brandon Graham said. “Nobody in this locker room is going to give up on the team and we found that out today. It was a great test for us in the beginning of the year because we are definitely going to have adversity down the line.”
With the win, the Eagles have now defeated every NFL team at home. And, with their 420 yards of total offense, they become the third team in NFL history to surpass 400 yards 13 times in a 17-game span.
