Bail for an Ambler teenager charged with vehicular homicide in a crash that killed two other teens was set at $500,000 yesterday.
Connor James McNicholas, 19, was charged by Montgomery County prosecutors in the Aug. 6 crash off Whitmer Road in Horsham. Authorities claim McNicholas had a blood alcohol content of .117 and was traveling between 97 and 103 miles per hour when the car he was driving veered off the road and struck several trees.
Authorities said McNicholas and his four passengers had left a party where alcohol was being served.
“In and around the vehicle, after the crash, we found a bottle of Captain Morgan Rum, also found a bottle of brandy,” said Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman.
Robert Nagle, 19, and Edward Coombs, 19, were declared dead at the scene due to head injuries.
McNicholas and two other teens suffered minor injuries.
McNicholas was arraigned yesterday before Magisterial District Judge Paul Leo. Defense attorney Peter Scuderi said the family is expected to post bail, but he declined to comment on the allegations against his client.
“He’s certainly no risk of flight. He’s a student at Temple [University]. He’s on the golf team, no prior record, and there’s a lot of support from the community,” Scuderi said. “He’s also very upset about what has happened. Nobody’s happy here.”
