Teen shot in Philly carjacking attempt drives himself to hospital

Police are looking for two gunmen in connection to an overnight shooting that injured a 17-year-old who drove himself to the hospital after being shot.

The victim was driving a car with three other people in it on the 5600 block of Lawrence Street in Olney at around 1 a.m. on Monday when two men approached the vehicle, tapped on the windows and said they were stealing the car, 6ABC reported.

When the victim drove away, the gunmen opened fire, hitting the car three times and striking the driver, 6ABC added.

“The shooter chased the car and fired a total of three shots. All three shots did strike the driver’s side of the vehicle,”Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small was quoted by CBS3. “One bullet did go through the driver door window and struck the 17-year-old victim in his left shoulder.”

The victim drove himself to St. Christopher’s Hospital, CBS3 added. He was listed in stable condition.

Police were talking to witnesses, including the other people who were in the car, and checking nearby surveillance footage, according to 6ABC. The suspects fled after the incident, and there have been no arrests.

One suspect was described as 18 to 21 years old, about 5-foot-11 to 6-foot-1 with a dark complexion and wearing a dark hoodie, according to Fox 29. The other was described as about 20 years old, 5-foot-7 with a dark complexion and full beard and wearing a white T-shirt.
