Teen who set boy on fire to be charged as adult

Philadelphia police say an 11-year-old boy who was lit on fire is recovering in a hospital, while his teen aged attacker faces charges as an adult.

Rayfiq Tiggle, 17,is charged with aggravated assault and related offenses for dousing the boy with hand sanitizer and using a cigarette lighter to set him on fire at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, the 11-year-old was sitting on his porch of his home around 60th and Hazelwith his mother and a friend when Tiggle walked by with a bottle of hand sanitizer.

Lt. John Walker told the Philadelphia Daily News that the injured boy’s friend asked if they could have some. The boyheld out his hand– and that’s when the Tiggle aimed for the victim, sprayed him with the hand sanitizer and lit him on fire with a cigarette lighter.

The victim was transported to nearby Mercy Hospital by car with second-degree burns to the left side of his torso.

Police caught up with Tiggle, who lives on the 6200 block of Delancey Street, on the 600 block of S. 59th Street around 8 p.m.They took him to the hospital where the victim identified him.

Bail was set at $100,000.
