Teenager attacked, robbed while playing Pokemon Go Thursday night

A South Jersey teenager was attacked and robbed while playing Pokemon Go in Washington Township Thursday night.

Michael Marotta, 17, was walking to a friend’s house and playing the game when he was approached by two men, Capt. Steve Rolando of the Washington Township Police Department told Philly.com.

After asking some general questions, the men attacked Marotta and ran off with his cell phone.

The victim reportedly suffered lacerations above his left eye, had to get a staple in his head and broke some ribs.

So far, one man was arrested in connection with the attack: Mark Miller, 18, also of Washington Township. He was held in lieu of bail on charges of assault and robbery, according to the report.

“While the game can be fun to play, players are reminded to keep their own personal safety in mind” when out and about playing the game, a statement on the department’s Instagram page read.
