National Hot Cocoa Day

The weather outside is frightful, but there are some truly delicious ways to deal with the cold and it all starts with National Cocoa Day (Dec. 13). Here is where to celebrate National Hot Cocoa Day 2019 in Philadelphia.

The best hot cocoa treats in Philadelphia

Weckerly’s Ice Cream

This popular Fishtown hotspot truly takes pride in their cocoa treat. According to a release, Weckerly’s says “In making our hot cocoa, we had one goal in mind; to be able to translate the local organic milk and organic fair-trade cocoa that makes our chocolate ice cream so special into a classic cold-weather beverage.” Weckerly’s makes their delectable hot cocoa mix weekly in their creamery with fresh milk from Camphill Village Dairy in Chester County, pure cane sugar and organic Dominican cocoa. The treat is topped off with handmade torched marshmallows and is heated to order at their shop.

Aqimero

There is truly no sweeter setting to sip on a hot cocoa treat than at the Ritz Carlton’s Aqimero in Center City. Being just steps away from Dilworth Park and Christmas Village, Aqimero is truly a mecca for all holiday happenings and on National Hot Cocoa Day they are pulling out all of the stops with their hot chocolate bar (running Wed-Sun until Jan. 5.) Aqimero’s hot chocolate bar features signature hot chocolate, available in both milk and dark chocolate, and is topped with brûléed marshmallows, candy canes and holiday cookies. Guests can also add $3 for an espresso shot or $5 more for a holiday spirit shot.

Cake Life Bake Shop

Cake Life may be known for its delicious bakery items, but for National Hot Cocoa Day they have treats that will deliciously warm up all Philadelphians. Cake Life offers two hot cocoa options: The Campfire Hot Cocoa is a traditional hot cocoa topped with house-made whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs and toasted meringues; and the Unicorn Hot Chocolate is white hot chocolate topped with house-made whipped cream, crumbled rainbow meringues and pastel sprinkles. If you still want to still go the baked good route while there (it’s hard not too) guests can also purchase Cake Life’s Campfire Cocoa Cake (also on their Cake of the Month menu for December.) The cake is made with hot chocolate whipped cream and toasted marshmallows.
