Thousands participate in Independence Day Parade

More than 5,000 people from across the country marched in Philadelphia’s annual Independence Day Parade in the city’s historic district this year.

Especially poignant was a “Hero’s Salute” commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Active members and veterans of the U.S. military including the Coast Guard, National Guard and Air Force joined firefighters from departments around the state, the State Capitol Police Honor Guard and the Philadelphia police Motor Squad to honor those killed in service while responding to the terrorist strike.

A “marching musical” featured Mummers the Joseph A. Ferko String Band and the Philadelphia Eagles Drum Line, as well as multiple baton twirlers, fife, drum and bugle corps and marching bands.

Along with those representing police and fire personnel, floats included the Helicopter Museum Float, the Drummers with Attitude Float and the Chinatown Community Float.
