Three killed in shootings Sunday, early Monday

Three people were killed in shootings during a span of about 16 hours Sunday into Monday, as Philadelphia’s homicide rate continues to surge.

Just after 8 a.m. Monday, a 26-year-old woman was shot once in the neck and once in the left arm on the 900 block of N. 41st Street in West Philadelphia, authorities said. She showed up to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and died less than 30 minutes later.

Investigators said a man has been arrested in connection with the killing, but they did not identify him. Detectives have also been examining the vehicle by which the victim arrived at the hospital.

Daryl Jones, 33, was gunned down a block away from his house at around 9 p.m. Sunday on the 2900 block of N. Bambrey Street in North Philadelphia, police said.

Officers who responded to the scene found Jones with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. They rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

No arrests have been made, and there was no word on a motive.

Just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a man was shot twice in the stomach on the 4500 block of N. Orianna Street in Fairhill. The victim, identified as 46-year-old Angel Albino, of Feltonville, succumbed to his injuries at around 5:45 p.m., authorities said.

Homicide detectives continue to search for a suspect.

The city’s murder rate is up 36% compared to this time last year, and a total of 343 people have been killed in 2020, according to police statistics.

Likewise, shootings have spiked by 47%. Four people were injured by gunfire Sunday night and early Monday, according to authorities.

Investigators were called to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania at 1:40 a.m. Monday for a report of a shooting victim.

A 34-year-old man who had been shot in the left thigh told officers that the incident occurred during an argument on the 1400 block of N. Conestoga Street in West Philadelphia. He knew the shooter, authorities said.

No arrests had been made as of Monday morning, and the victim is being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
In Kensington, a 21-year-old man was shot in the left thigh and buttocks just before 11 p.m. Sunday on the 3100 block of A Street. Police transported him to Temple Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Authorities said a 30-year-old man was shot in both shoulders at around 7:20 p.m. Sunday on the 4900 block of W. Thompson Street in the Parkside section of West Philadelphia. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Officers rushed a man to the hospital at 6 p.m. Sunday after he was shot in the genitals and right leg on the 2700 block of N. Warnock Street in North Philadelphia. He is listed in stable condition, police said.

Police investigating two home invasions

Detectives on Monday morning began investigating a pair of home invasion robberies in different sections of the city.

Three armed men broke into a home at around 10:40 a.m. Monday on the 6400 block of Eastwood Street in Oxford Circle, taking $2,000 in cash and a 2004 White Ford Explorer, police said.

The assailants forced a 24-year-old man to the back of the property and physically assaulted his 24-year-old sister. She appeared to be in stable condition, investigators said.

In Kingsessing, a gunman approached a 26-year-old woman as she was walking to her vehicle just before 3:30 a.m. Monday on the 1300 block of S. Paxon Street, police said.

He forced her back into her residence at gunpoint and stole $200 in cash and a PlayStation, according to authorities. The victim was not injured.

Three suspects wanted in Nicetown shooting

Investigators released surveillance video Monday in an attempt to identify three men who opened fire on a group of people Wednesday night in Nicetown.

The footage showed the gunmen hopping out of a “lightning blue” Ford Escape, which stopped on the 4200 block of N. Hicks Street just before 8 p.m. After rounding the corner, the suspects fired at least 30 shots, hitting three people.

A driver waited in the Escape, and the gunmen fled the scene. All three victims were treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
