Union clinches playoff berth after Toronto draw

What a great day for a second-year franchise.

The Union found out they had made the MLS playoffs following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Toronto FC at a sold-out PPL Park.

That’s quite impressive, considering this team hasn’t been in existence all that long.

“I’m very excited for our players, our organization and especially our great fans,” said Sebastien Le Toux, who scored his team-leading 11th goal against Toronto. “It feels really great, and now we have to keep it going. That’s the next goal.”

Philadelphia is 11-7-15, and extended its unbeaten streak to eight (3-0-5).

The Union is one of nine teams that’s clinched a playoff berth. One spot is up for grabs.

Next up is a trip to rival New York on Thursday, before finding out where the postseason journey will

begin.

This much the team knows: They’re in.

“This was our goal from Day 1,” midfielder Brian Carroll said. “We always knew it was possible. We worked as hard as we could and got it done. It feels great. We’re all very happy and excited about the next step.”
