A homeless man has been charged with murder in the death of a Philly psychiatrist who was found strangled in a Center City hotel on Monday.
Manuel Baez, 27, is accused of murderingHoward Baker, 75, found inside the Rodeway Inn on the 1200 block of Walnut Street on Monday just before noon.
Officers found Baker’s body inside room 504, covered by a sheet, with an unknown ligature around his neck.
At a news conference Tuesday, homicide investigators stated that Baker had told his wife he was in Center City Sunday to watchthe Eagles game, but he was in fact at the Rodewaywith at least two men.
One of those men reportedly was seen on hotel surveillance footage leaving carrying Baker’s wallet.
Baker was a psychiatrist with offices in Wynnewood and Center City who worked with individuals, couples and families.According to an online profile, he also taught medical students at the University of Pennsylvania.
