Vick gets key to Dallas, snubs animal activist

Would Mayor Michael Nutter give the key to the city of Philadelphia to Tony Romo? Highly doubtful.

Yet, that’s exactly what Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway did last Saturday, when he handed the key to Dallas to Eagles QB Michael Vick in a small ceremony. Yesterday, the city’s real mayor tried to clear up the situation.

“The action taken was not sanctioned by my office and was not an official ceremonial honor on behalf of the city of Dallas,” Tom Leppert said. “Official keys to the city are presented by the mayor, or an elected official designated by the mayor, and reserved, on a limited basis, for an elected official of international status.”

Local radio reporter Richard Hunter filmed the event and it instantly went viral. Hunter, who adopted one of Vick’s abused dogs, flashes a picture and attempts to ask Vick a question. The reformed star offers no response, while his bodyguard curses into the camera.
